Among the bustling river terminals of Cox’s Bazar, the BIWTA’s No. 6 Jetty stands out as one of the liveliest. Every day, this jetty serves as the main gateway for nearly half a million residents of Moheshkhali, along with thousands of local and foreign tourists heading to the island. From dawn till dusk, the jetty hums with life—an ever-changing tableau of people, movement, and stories.
Rows of speedboats, gunboats, and trawlers line the waters, creating a vivid scene of rhythm and motion. The familiar calls of the boatmen—
“Moheshkhali! Moheshkhali!”—echoes across the jetty, a refrain that has become its own kind of song over time.
The wooden platform comes alive with the footsteps of travelers. Some are office-bound, others return from the market, while many set off seeking the thrill of an island journey. Small vendors and their makeshift stalls add color and character to the daily rush, weaving together countless threads of ordinary yet remarkable lives.
Recently, the Nuniachhara BIWTA Jetty has also gained popularity, thanks to the new sea-sea-truck service operating from there, offering passengers a faster and more comfortable crossing experience.
Yet, the charm of No. 6 Jetty remains unmatched. Here, amid the roar of the waves, the rumble of trawler engines, and the chatter of people, countless stories are born each day—stories of journeys, livelihoods, and dreams carried by the tide of life itself.
