In the coastal village of Darya Nagar, Dildar Begum has drawn attention for her success in cultivating winter vegetables on the sandy lands near the sea dunes. “Our home is here in Darya Nagar, and we grow vegetables regularly on our farmland. This season, I’ve planted about ten varieties on five gonda of land,” she said. Her fields are filled with bottle gourd, pumpkin, watermelon, bitter gourd, tomato, snake gourd, and green chili, among others. “Every winter, we grow vegetables not only to meet family needs but also to sell the surplus in local markets,” she added. Local residents say vegetable farming on the sandy coastal soil is becoming increasingly promising. With regular care and proper irrigation, production could rise even further.
