Residents of Cox’s Bazar experienced another day of Ashar’s characteristically unpredictable weather on Wednesday, as a cloud-covered morning gave way to bright sunshine and intense heat by midday.
The sky remained heavily overcast during the morning, offering relief from the recent spell of hot weather. Thick clouds drifting across the horizon created a pleasant atmosphere and raised expectations of rainfall among many residents.
However, the weather took a sharp turn after noon as the clouds gradually cleared, revealing a bright blue sky. The emergence of strong sunshine quickly pushed temperatures higher, causing discomfort for people working outdoors and those travelling through the town.
Abdul Karim, a resident of Cox’s Bazar town, said the morning weather had suggested that rain was imminent.
“The sky was completely covered with clouds and it looked like it would rain at any moment. But by the afternoon, the sun came out and the heat became quite intense. It has become difficult to predict the weather these days,” he said.
Mohammad Alam, a rickshaw puller, said the monsoon season often brings sudden changes in weather conditions.
“I left home carrying an umbrella because of the clouds in the morning. Now the weather is entirely different and the heat is becoming uncomfortable,” he said.
According to local residents, such rapidly changing weather is a familiar feature of the month of Ashar. Intense sunshine, sudden downpours, and overcast skies often alternate within a single day as the monsoon season progresses.
Officials at the Cox’s Bazar Meteorological Office said fluctuating weather patterns are common during the monsoon due to changes in atmospheric conditions. They expect a combination of clouds, sunshine, and intermittent rainfall to continue over the coming days.
While the drifting clouds against the blue sky and the ever-changing monsoon landscape continue to fascinate nature lovers, the unpredictable conditions remain a challenge for many people going about their daily activities.
