The once-busy fish landing centre, Fishery Ghat, in Cox’s Bazar has turned largely quiet, with a sharp decline in fish supply and overall activity amid Eid ul Fitr.
The area, once filled with noise and heavy activity, now appears subdued.
Fish traders and workers said that the centre is facing a significant slowdown, although it is not entirely deserted.
A few traders were seen selling limited quantities of fish, and activity was minimal.
According to traders and fishermen, the Eid holidays have led many to return to their home villages, resulting in a sharp drop in sea fishing.
This has had a direct impact on the supply chain at the landing centre.
Fisherman Abdur Rahim said that most fishermen had gone home for Eid, leaving the centre with almost no fish arrivals.
A fuel shortage has further complicated the situation.
Fishermen said many boats are unable to go to sea due to inadequate fuel supplies, putting the livelihoods of thousands of fishermen, traders, and others linked to the sector at risk.
However, stakeholders remain hopeful that normalcy will return once the Eid holidays end and fuel supply improves. They expect the centre to regain its vibrancy as fish supplies increase in the coming days.
