With fishing temporarily suspended along the Cox’s Bazar coast, local fishermen are spending their idle days giving their trawlers a much-needed facelift.

From morning until late afternoon, the coastal docks are abuzz with the sound of hammers, brushes, and engines as owners and workers prepare their boats for the next fishing season.

According to the fishermen, trawlers are refurbished ahead of the fishing season to ensure they are sturdy and safe once they return to sea.

The repair work includes coating the hulls with tar, fixing wooden panels, testing engines, and readying sails—creating a festive atmosphere across the fishing docks.

“Keeping the trawler in good shape is vital when the sea is calm and fishing resumes,” said a local boat owner.

“This is the perfect time for maintenance.”

During this break, many fishermen are repairing and repainting their trawlers in bright new colors, hoping to set sail into the deep sea with renewed energy when the season begins.
