A fisherman in Teknaf, Cox’s Bazar, landed a massive white Bhol fish weighing around 16 kilograms using a fishing rod at Shamlapur beach under Baharchhara Union on Monday.

The rare catch brought sheer joy to the local fishing community.

According to locals, the fish was cut into pieces and sold immediately at the nearby market for Tk 800 per kilogram, fetching the fisherman a handsome return.

Mohammad Junaid, a local resident, said, “No one expected such a giant white bhol to be caught on a rod. The catch was truly fortunate. The fisherman is delighted with the excellent price.”

Residents noted that while large fish are occasionally caught along the Shamlapur coast, landing such a big one with a rod is unusual, sparking much discussion in the area.
