Teknaf, Cox’s Bazar – In an extraordinary catch, a 22-kg coral fish and a 17-kg rita fish were hooked from the Naf River near Teknaf’s Transit Jetty on Monday night around 8:30 PM.

According to Hamid Hossain, the lease collector at the jetty, the massive fish were caught by Firoz Ahmed, a resident of Jaliapara in Teknaf Municipality, using a traditional fishing rod.

Firoz shared that the over 4-foot-long coral sold for Tk 25,000, while the over 3-foot-long rita fetched Tk 12,000. Both were purchased by local fish trader Md Eman Hossain for a total of Tk 37,000 at the market near the Teknaf bus station.

Upazila Senior Fisheries Officer Md. Delwar Hossain noted that while coral fish are often caught in the Naf River, this season marks the first recorded instance of a rita fish being hooked there. He added that both species are prized in local markets for their delicious taste and high demand.

The catch has sparked interest among locals and traders, turning the quiet jetty into a hotspot of excitement and admiration for the skilled angler and his rare river bounty.
