Hawai Mithai – a name that evokes nostalgia and childhood memories. This traditional Bengali sweet, prevalent in rural and urban areas, has a special place in the hearts of people across Bangladesh.
In Cox’s Bazar, a bustling tourist destination, Hawai Mithai vendors can be spotted in various locations. Jahid, a local vendor, shares:
“I sell each piece for 20 taka. Every day, I roam around Cox’s Bazar beach and other spots, earning around 1,000 taka daily to support my family.”
Hawai Mithai is a cotton-like sugary delight that melts instantly in the mouth, earning it the name ‘Hawai Mithai’ (Airy Sweet). Its fluffy pink and white texture resembles a piece of cloud on a stick, making it irresistible for both children and adults.
Interestingly, this sweet treat is known by many names worldwide, including Cotton Candy, Fairy Floss, and Candy Floss.
