Cox’s Bazar, one of Bangladesh’s most popular tourist destinations, is experiencing its heaviest rainfall of the year, with a record 401 mm of rain recorded today.
The downpour has submerged the entire tourist area, including the hotel-motel zone from Kolatoli to Laboni, leaving roads knee-deep in water.
Around 90% of the city has been flooded due to the continuous rain over the past two days, causing severe difficulties for both residents and tourists.
Many tourists had flocked to Cox’s Bazar for the weekend, hoping for a short vacation, only to find themselves trapped by the adverse weather.
Abir Hossain, a tourist from Badda, Dhaka, shared his frustration, saying, “I came for the weekend, but now I’m stuck. I haven’t been able to go anywhere since yesterday because of the rain.”
The meteorological office further hoisted local cautionary signal number 3 at maritime ports like Chattogram, Cox’s Bazar, Mongla, and Payra.
Fishing boats and trawlers in the North Bay have been advised to stay close to the coast and exercise caution until further notice.
