Syed Hossain, a resident of Goalia village in Ramu upazila, has brought freshly harvested jackfruits from his orchard to sell along Cox’s Bazar’s scenic Marine Drive. His hope? Tourists will love the taste and pay a better price than they would if they returned home.
In the local Chattogram dialect, he calls them “onek gom” jackfruits—meaning they are of exceptional quality. With a warm smile, he says, “Bhai, these jackfruits are truly onek gom!”
These fresh, chemical-free jackfruits—grown without artificial ripening agents—are sold for 200 to 300 taka, depending on size. “They’re straight from my orchard, all natural,” Syed proudly shares. “Once someone tastes them, they usually come back looking for more.”
Many tourists strolling down Marine Drive have been charmed by the jackfruits’ rich flavor and freshness.
Encouraged by the positive response, Syed says he plans to return regularly to Cox’s Bazar with more jackfruits if the demand keeps up.
