Cox’s Bazar has recently initiated an 8-day particular awareness campaign focusing on dengue prevention, cleanliness drives, and reducing single-use plastics.

The campaign, which will continue until December 7, aims to keep the city and its iconic beach clean, raise awareness about dengue prevention, and encourage people to minimize their use of plastic.

The Bangladesh Tourism Board, the Cox’s Bazar District Administration, the Tourist Police, UN Volunteers Bangladesh, and YASID officially launched the campaign on Friday (November 29) afternoon.

The campaign involves 150 volunteers and beach management staff conducting various activities, including beach cleanup drives, distributing leaflets about the harmful effects of single-use plastics, spraying insecticides to prevent dengue, making public announcements, and raising awareness.

The Chief Executive Officer of the Bangladesh Tourism Board, Abu Taher Mohammad Jaber, inaugurated the campaign.

“Without cleanliness, tourists will lose interest in visiting Cox’s Bazar. The annual influx of millions of visitors generates a significant amount of waste. Globally, many countries have implemented city or green taxes, where tourists contribute to maintaining cleanliness. Cox’s Bazar should also introduce such a tax to sustain its beauty and manage waste effectively,” he remarked.

Mohammad Salahuddin, the Deputy Commissioner of Cox’s Bazar, presided over the event. Several organizations also participated in the campaign.
