Principal Maulana Nur Ahmad Anowari, the Jamaat-e-Islami-backed candidate for the Ukhiya–Teknaf constituency, said on Monday that if elected to parliament, Jamaat would work to establish justice and ensure people’s development.

Seeking votes for the Daripalla symbol, Anowari said that those who came to power in Ukhiya–Teknaf in the past were involved in corruption but failed to establish justice. “If we come to power, there will be no irregularities, corruption, or business syndicates in this border constituency. Jamaat-e-Islami will work to ensure justice and development for the people,” he said.

Addressing the final election rally, Anowari outlined a wide-ranging development agenda, saying that if elected he would prioritise the operation of Teknaf land port, the Shah Porir Dwip corridor, modernisation of Teknaf municipality, construction of a permanent stadium in Teknaf, initiatives related to the Naf River, introduction of honours courses at Teknaf College, nationalisation of Pilot High School, establishment of a women’s college in Teknaf, reopening of the Damdamia–St Martin’s ghat, legalisation of settlements on khas land, establishment of a magistrate’s court in Teknaf, and effective measures to launch a tourism park.

He also pledged to take steps to stop harassment through false cases, curb drug trafficking and prevent abduction. “Within a year, the overall picture of Ukhiya–Teknaf will change,” he said.

Anowari said that he did not view politics as a means to power, but as a platform to serve the people. “If I am elected as an MP with your votes, I will work with you to transform every area of Ukhiya and Teknaf into a modern, educated, and development-oriented region. Honest, competent, and people-friendly leadership is essential for development,” he said, seeking prayers, support, and votes from the electorate.

Jamaat’s central assistant secretary general Muhammad Shahjahan, the chief guest at the rally, said that Ukhiya–Teknaf would be freed from syndicates through the February 12 election. “This is the time to unite and oust misrule. New leadership will establish development and good governance in this border constituency, he stated.
