Thousands of tourists have gathered at Cox’s Bazar sea beach ahead of the weekly holidays on Friday and Saturday. At the same time, the beach wears a calm winter look, with tranquil blue waters captivating visitors.
Red-and-yellow flags have been hoisted along the shoreline, indicating that sea bathing is currently safe. Due to the cold weather, fewer people are entering the water in the early morning. As soon as the sun comes out, however, tourists begin to enjoy bathing in the salty waves.
Most visitors are entering the sea at three designated points—Kolatoli, Laboni, and Sugandha. For safety reasons, Sea Safe Lifeguard authorities have urged beachgoers to follow guidelines.
Lifeguards said that specific bathing zones have been clearly marked at the three points where lifeguard services are available. These zones are demarcated with red-and-yellow or red flags. Entering the water outside the marked areas may be dangerous, they warned.
Mohammad Osman Gani, supervisor and senior lifeguard of Sea Safe Lifeguard, told Cox’s Bazar Life that the sea remains relatively calm due to the winter season, which is why red-and-yellow flags have been hoisted. He advised tourists to bathe only within the designated areas at the three points where lifeguard services are in place to avoid risks.
According to lifeguard officials, low tide on Friday (January 16) is at 2:35 pm, while high tide is expected from 3:03 pm.
Officials also cautioned that ignoring warning signals or lifeguard instructions while bathing could lead to serious accidents at any time.
