To strengthen Bangladesh’s power supply and energy security, the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) has extended a loan assistance of Tk6,700 crore for the Matarbari Power Project. The Bangladesh government and JICA have signed a loan agreement to accelerate the implementation of this crucial project.
The Matarbari Power Project includes the construction of a 1,200-megawatt ultra-supercritical coal-fired power plant, which is expected to enhance the country’s power generation capacity significantly. Additionally, the project will feature a 400 kV transmission line, roads, bridges, and a deep-sea port to support energy logistics and infrastructure development.
This initiative aims to ensure the stability of Bangladesh’s power production and distribution system, meeting the country’s growing electricity demands. Furthermore, JICA’s financial assistance will contribute to diversifying energy sources and increasing energy reliability, marking a milestone in the nation’s energy sector.
With this investment, Bangladesh’s power infrastructure is set to become more stable and efficient, playing a vital role in addressing electricity shortages and driving economic growth.
