Sixty-year-old farmer Kabir Ahmed of Patuartek village remains tireless in his efforts, finding new hope in cultivating hyacinth bean seeds this season. He has begun cultivating the crop on land he inherited from his maternal grandfather, and he also resides in Patuartek.
Kabir Ahmed said hyacinth beans fetch reasonable prices in the market during both the monsoon and winter. Given steady demand and profitability, he decided to cultivate hyacinth beans this winter rather than other seasonal vegetables.
He added that, with regular care and proper management, the plants begin bearing fruit within 2 months of planting. If yields are satisfactory, he expects a significant profit after covering production costs. The crop also requires comparatively less labour, which is encouraging other local farmers to take an interest.
Agriculture-related experts in the area said hyacinth bean cultivation can be highly profitable. With proper care and timely marketing, farmers can earn excellent returns from the crop.
