The island upazila of Kutubdia made a strong statement in the Notun Kuri Sports competition, securing victories in both football and kabaddi across boys’ and girls’ categories.
The young athletes celebrated their wins with visible excitement, with many expressing ambitions to represent their area at the national level and aim for championship titles.
Kutubdia’s players reported regular training and a strong focus on achieving positive outcomes in the competition’s upcoming stages.
A local official said the success reflects the players’ dedication, discipline, and consistent practice, expressing hope for even better performances in the future.
The event was inaugurated on Saturday at the Sylhet District Stadium, while in Cox’s Bazar, the local program was launched at the Birshreshtha Ruhul Amin Stadium with a balloon release ceremony attended by local representatives.
Speakers at the opening described the New Kuri initiative as an important step in nurturing young talent through sports and encouraging youth development.
A total of 3,352 participants from Cox’s Bazar have registered for the competition, including 2,606 boys and 746 girls.
Participants aged 12 to 14 are competing in eight disciplines: football, cricket, kabaddi, athletics, swimming, badminton, chess, and martial arts.
On the opening day, competitions were held in football and kabaddi, with four sub-districts taking part.
Organisers believe the initiative is creating valuable opportunities for grassroots athletes to showcase their talent, which could have a positive impact on the national sports landscape in the future.
