The rhythmic melodies of Lalon songs filled the Shahid Subhash Hall at Cox’s Bazar Public Library on Friday evening, captivating the audience with their soulful mysticism. The accompanying dance performances added a graceful touch to the musical tribute.
Like elsewhere in the country, Cox’s Bazar observed the 135th death anniversary of the mystic bard Fakir Lalon Shah with a discussion and cultural program organized by the district administration, in collaboration with the Cox’s Bazar Cultural Centre and District Shilpakala Academy.
The event was chaired by Additional Deputy Commissioner Sayeduzzaman Chowdhury, with District Children Affairs Officer Ahsanul Haque moderating. Deputy Commissioner Md Abdul Hannan attended as the chief guest, while Cultural Centre Director Mongshen Hla Rakhine and Upazila Nirbahi Officer Nilufa Yasmin Chowdhury were present as special guests.
Speakers at the event highlighted that Fakir Lalon Shah was a humanist and non-sectarian spiritual leader who preached love, harmony, and equality beyond the boundaries of caste and creed. They emphasized that practicing and promoting Lalon’s philosophy could help reduce social inequality and foster unity among people.
The discussion was followed by a cultural session where local artistes rendered timeless Lalon songs, reviving the spirit of the Baul tradition in the heart of Cox’s Bazar.
