The Bangladesh Meteorological Department has withdrawn local cautionary signal No 3 for Cox’s Bazar and the country’s three other seaports as the threat of squally weather has eased.

The decision was announced at 10:00am on Sunday following an improvement in weather conditions.

According to the latest weather bulletin issued by the BMD, the authorities have advised the seaports of Chattogram, Cox’s Bazar, Mongla and Payra to lower local cautionary signal No 3.

On Saturday, the Met Office instructed the four seaports to keep Signal No. 3 hoisted due to the possibility of squally weather over the north-west Bay of Bengal, adjoining coastal areas, and the seaports, triggered by a steep pressure gradient over the region.

With the weather system weakening, the risk of squally conditions has now diminished, prompting the withdrawal of the cautionary signal.

However, the Meteorological Department has advised fishing boats, trawlers and other vessels operating at sea to remain alert and follow subsequent weather bulletins closely.
