Just a short drive from Cox’s Bazar town, Chanderpara in Jhilongja Union is quietly emerging as a favourite retreat for nature lovers seeking peace away from the city’s bustle.

Bordered by the gentle flow of the Bakkhali River, the rural locality offers sweeping views of lush paddy fields, open countryside and an unspoiled landscape that draws increasing numbers of local visitors. As the day winds down, people of all ages gather along the riverbank to enjoy the cool breeze and watch the sun set over the horizon.

Residents say Chanderpara is at its most picturesque during and after the monsoon, when the countryside is blanketed in vibrant greenery. The river, flanked by vast stretches of farmland, offers a tranquil setting where visitors can watch farmers at work and experience the simplicity of rural life.

“Before coming here, I had no idea such a beautiful place existed so close to the town,” said local visitor Saiful Islam. “The view of the Bakkhali River and the surrounding green fields is incredibly soothing. I came here with my family to spend some quality time.”

Another visitor, Jahangir, said the area offered a welcome break from the fast pace of urban life.

“It feels wonderful to be so close to nature. The peaceful village atmosphere and the beauty of the river make this an ideal place to relax,” he said.

Residents believe that with improved visitor facilities and careful planning, Chanderpara has the potential to develop into one of Cox’s Bazar’s promising rural tourism destinations.

They also emphasised the importance of balancing tourism development with the preservation of the area’s natural environment, ensuring that its scenic beauty remains intact for future generations.
