A low-pressure area has formed over the southeast Bay of Bengal and adjoining areas, which may intensify into a depression and later develop into a cyclonic storm, according to the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD).
The information was confirmed in the department’s Special Weather Bulletin No. 1 issued on Friday.
However, no warning signals have yet been issued for inland river ports, and authorities have stated that there is no need to display cautionary signals at this stage.
Abdul Hannan, Assistant Meteorologist at the Cox’s Bazar Weather Office, said that the low-pressure system may intensify into a depression and then into a cyclone.
Its projected path currently points toward the Odisha and Andhra Pradesh coasts of India, so it is unlikely to have any significant impact on Bangladesh’s mainland, he added.
He further explained that the system is still in its early stages of development.
“It will need to gain more strength to become a deep depression and eventually a cyclone. We will share the name and other details with the media once it reaches that stage,” he added.
Meanwhile, the Met Office has advised fishing boats and trawlers operating in the North Bay not to venture into the deep sea until further notice.
Additionally, rain is expected in various parts of the country from October 29, according to the latest forecast.
