Pekua, a picturesque sub-district in Cox’s Bazar, has long captivated hearts with its natural beauty, and in recent times, its emerging tourism potential has begun to draw attention. Among its newest attractions is Maghnama Ghat, located on Pekua’s western frontier—a serene realm where the breath of nature blends with the sea’s waves, the rhythm of fishermen’s lives, and the quiet magic of sunset.
A Place That Touches the Soul
Visiting Maghnama Ghat feels like stepping into a different world. Here, you can lose yourself in the caress of the breeze while seated beside endless waters. Every afternoon, especially on weekends, hundreds gather here seeking a brief escape—some with families, others hand-in-hand with loved ones, while many arrive to shed the burdens of everyday life.
Fishing boats and sampans dance on the waves as fishermen haul in and sell their catches, creating a living canvas of coastal life. For a poet, it is a place where verses find rhythm, while for visitors, it is a spot that leaves them spellbound in silence.
Safe and Accessible for Visitors
To reach the main ghat, visitors cross a 200-yard narrow bridge that leads directly to a platform built over the water, measuring 20 yards in length and width. This platform is surrounded by safety railings, ensuring additional security for children and elderly visitors.
On the platform’s northwest corner, a passenger shed and public toilets have been built by the district council, making travel increasingly convenient for visitors. Local entrepreneurs have also opened small “cooling corners,” where you can enjoy a cup of tea or coffee while embracing the sea breeze and the music of waves.
The Enchantment of Sunset
One of Maghnama Ghat’s most cherished attractions is its sunset. Every evening, tourists gather on the steps to witness the comforting sight of the sun slowly disappearing beyond the sea, as if it is gently fading away into a distant, quiet village across the horizon.
A Living Connection with Kutubdia
Maghnama Ghat is not only a sanctuary of beauty but also a vital crossing point for people traveling to and from Kutubdia. Every day, thousands pass through this ghat, with the splash of oars, the steady arrival and departure of passengers, and the bustle of fishermen creating a vibrant, colorful scene.
A New Horizon for Tourism
Although a full-fledged tourism infrastructure is yet to develop here, Maghnama Ghat has already become a new destination for nature lovers. The swelling crowds on Fridays and Thursdays reflect its growing popularity as a pure center of leisure and local recreation.
Maghnama Ghat proves that natural beauty does not always need heavy promotion to shine. With a bit of planned development and care, it has the potential to become one of the country’s premier tourist destinations. For those yet to visit, Maghnama Ghat is an invitation to witness how nature speaks in silence—an experience you will carry within you long after you leave.
