The demand for mint leaves has increased severalfold during Ramadan, as the herb remains a staple ingredient in iftar preparations. Widely used in chickpea and puffed rice mixes and in various traditional drinks, mint enjoys peak popularity during the holy month.

Capitalising on this seasonal demand, local vendors have introduced a distinctive initiative on the pavement adjacent to Cox’s Bazar Municipality. There, potted mint plants are being sold directly to customers.

Buyers can pluck fresh leaves straight from the pots for immediate use in iftar, while also having the option to take the entire plant home for continued cultivation. The approach has drawn considerable interest from passersby.

Vendors said each pot of mint costs Tk 80, with small discounts for bulk purchases. They added that the sale of potted mint plants will continue throughout Ramadan.

According to a local resident, Inzamam, the initiative meets seasonal culinary demand and encourages households to grow their own greenery at home. The venture has already generated a positive response in the area during Ramadan.
