Wild musk mallow flowers bloom among green foliage along the Marine Drive road in Cox’s Bazar, adding a splash of yellow to the coastal landscape. Their pale yellow petals and dark central rings make them stand out against the surrounding greenery. Scientifically known as Abelmoschus manihot, the plant is commonly called wild okra, sunset muskmallow, or edible hibiscus. A member of the Malvaceae family, which also includes hibiscus and okra, it can grow up to six feet tall. Its flowers are generally four to six inches wide, while its young leaves and shoots are eaten as vegetables in some countries.
