The arrival of the monsoon has transformed stretches of Cox’s Bazar Marine Drive into a vibrant green landscape, with flourishing Sagarlata (morning glory vines) adding a fresh dimension to the scenic coastal highway.

Recent rainfall has encouraged the rapid growth of the creeping coastal plant across dunes and along the shoreline along Marine Drive.

The lush green cover has enhanced the region’s natural beauty, attracting tourists, motorists, and residents alike.

Against a backdrop of cloudy skies, the roar of the Bay of Bengal, and cool monsoon breezes, the sprawling greenery has created a picturesque setting that many visitors find captivating.

Several tourists visiting the Marine Drive, including Asada Samun and her companions, said the area takes on a distinctly different character during the rainy season.

“The beauty of the Marine Drive becomes even more striking during the monsoon. The greenery everywhere and the cool sea breeze make the experience truly refreshing,” one of the visitors said.

Residents said the beach vines grow rapidly with the onset of seasonal rains, covering large sections of coastal dunes and giving the landscape a renewed sense of vitality.

Environmental enthusiasts note that the plant plays an important role in stabilising dunes and protecting coastal ecosystems, while also contributing to the area’s visual appeal.

They believe the monsoon greenery has added a new attraction to Cox’s Bazar tourism, offering visitors an opportunity to experience a different side of the coastal destination beyond its famous beach.

With favourable weather conditions expected to continue, many hope that more travellers will visit the Marine Drive in the coming weeks to enjoy the striking contrast of emerald-green vegetation, rolling sea waves, and dramatic monsoon skies.
