The National Vitamin A Plus Campaign has begun in Cox’s Bazar, in line with the nationwide programme, with a target of providing high-dose vitamin A capsules to 493,315 children aged between six and 59 months across the district.
On Sunday morning, the Cox’s Bazar Civil Surgeon’s Office organised an event at the Cox’s Bazar Municipality to formally inaugurate the campaign.
District Council Administrator ATM Nurul Bashar Chowdhury attended the inauguration as the chief guest.
Speaking at the event, Chowdhury stressed the importance of vitamin A supplementation in improving child nutrition and reducing the risk of malnutrition.
“It is essential that every child aged between six months and five years receives a vitamin A capsule. All concerned must work with the highest priority to ensure that no eligible child in the district is left out of this campaign,” he said.
According to the Civil Surgeon’s Office, the campaign is being implemented through 1,824 centres across the district’s eight upazilas, targeting 493,315 children aged between six and 59 months.
The inaugural programme was chaired by Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Abdul Mannan. Among those present were the Civil Surgeon, the Superintendent of Police, a representative of UNICEF, the president of the Cox’s Bazar Press Club and officials from various government and non-government organisations.
