The Navy jetty at Inani Beach in Cox’s Bazar has partially collapsed due to the approaching Cyclone Dana.
The jetty split in two, following tidal surges in the Bay of Bengal.
Locals said the sea was somewhat turbulent due to the cyclone. The highest tide occurred around 3:00 a.m. last night, during which the jetty was struck by a barge tied to it. They also said they heard loud noises throughout the night as the wind buffeted the barge.
Ukhia UNO Tanvir Hossain confirmed the matter with Cox’s Bazar Life.
The locals said that the collapse of the jetty is a hindrance to tourism. Moreover, the destruction of the jetty has created additional complications for travel to Saint Martin’s Island.
