The full-length Bangladeshi film Naya Manush is set to be showcased in the Bangladesh Panorama section of the 24th Dhaka International Film Festival (DIFF), one of the country’s most prestigious cinematic events. The film will have its premiere at the National Museum’s main auditorium in Shahbagh.
The Dhaka International Film Festival began on January 10 and will run until January 18, for 9 days. Organised by the Rainbow Film Society under the slogan “Aesthetic Cinema, Mindful Audience, Enlightened Society,” this year’s festival features 245 feature-length, short, and documentary films from 91 countries, screened across various competitive and non-competitive sections.
Directed by Sohel Rana Boyati, Naya Manush has been selected for the Bangladesh Panorama category. Its first screening will take place on Monday, January 12, at 7:00 pm at the National Museum’s main auditorium. The film will be screened again on January 17 at 6:00 pm at Laboni Point on Cox’s Bazar sea beach.
Speaking about the film, actor Rawnak Hasan said, “Recently, Naya Manush received nominations in 11 out of 14 categories at the BFDC Awards and won awards for Best Actor and Best Screenplay. This is my first award as a film actor, which I received jointly with Shakib Khan. Naya Manush holds a very special emotional value for me.”
Director Sohel Rana Boyati described the selection as a moment of pride. “It is both an honour and a joy to have Naya Manush screened alongside films from different countries. The film speaks out against the injustices committed in the name of caste, social customs, and religious divisions. Our main goal is to gradually bring this story to a wider audience,” he said.
Naya Manush is based on A. M. M. Hasanuzzaman’s novel Bedonar Baluchare. The screenplay and dialogue were written by Masum Reza. The film features performances by Rawnak Hasan, Mousumi Hamid, Ashis Khandakar, Jhuna Chowdhury, Shikha Karmakar, Nilufar Wahid, Badruddoza, Mahin Rahman, Nazmul Hossain, Smaran Saha, Sanjana Mehran, and child artiste Ushoshi.
