The annual general meeting and inauguration of the newly elected board of directors of the Cox’s Bazar Chamber of Commerce and Industry were held with expectations of strengthening business and investment in Cox’s Bazar.
The event took place on Saturday night at the Marina Ballroom of Sayeman Beach Resort and was attended by prominent business leaders, professionals, journalists, and members of civil society.
The first session featured the annual general meeting, chaired by former chamber president Abu Morshed Chowdhury. Secretary Naser Mahmud presented the annual activity and financial reports, while former director Abid Ahsan Sagar reviewed the chamber’s activities for the 2024–2025 fiscal year.
During the open discussion, general members highlighted key challenges facing local businesses, including infrastructure limitations, the need for tourism sector development, the creation of an investment-friendly environment, and the protection of local business interests. They also offered recommendations for sustainable economic growth.
The inauguration ceremony of the newly elected board followed, with Member of Parliament Shahjahan Chowdhury attending as the chief guest. Among the special guests were leaders from the district bar association, press club, and journalists’ union.
Advocate Syed Alam, acting as chief election commissioner, administered the oath to the newly elected board members, formally handing over responsibilities to the new leadership.
On behalf of the new board, Vice-President Sheikh Ashikuzzaman pledged to introduce business-friendly policies, expand investment, develop skilled human resources, and promote local industries.
Board members KM Rezaul Karim, Mukim Khan, and Gias Uddin Ziku also spoke about the challenges, potential, and future strategies for business development in the district.
Outgoing executive committee members were honoured at the event, and a video message from newly elected President Abdul Shukkur outlined the vision and plans of the new committee.
The programme concluded with a farewell speech by Senior Vice-President Anwarul Islam.
Speakers expressed hope that through unity, cooperation, and strategic initiatives, the chamber will continue to play a vital role in advancing sustainable economic development in the region.
