Peter D. Haas, who served as the U.S. Ambassador to Bangladesh from March 2022 to July 23, 2024, recently visited Cox’s Bazar as strategic advisor for the U.S.-based liquefied natural gas (LNG) company Excelerate Energy. The company operates a floating LNG terminal in Maheshkhali and plans a second terminal. Bangladesh has contracted it to supply LNG until 2026.
During his visit, Peter Haas toured the 50-bed Hope Foundation Hospital in Ramu and the under-construction 30-bed Excelerate Hospital in Maheshkhali: Derek Wong, Vice President of Excelerate Energy, and Md. Habibur Rahman Bhuiyan, the company’s Bangladesh Country Manager, warmly welcomed him.
After concluding his visits, Peter Haas departed for Dhaka in the evening. The trip highlighted the strategic collaboration between Excelerate Energy and Bangladesh in the energy and healthcare sectors.
