The Marichya Gold Cup Football Tournament has officially begun in Marichya, Ukhiya. Tarek Mohammad Chowdhury Rajib, Senior Joint Secretary of the Ukhiya Upazilla BNP, inaugurated the tournament on Friday afternoon.
Presided over by the tournament’s organizing committee president, Sohel Rana, the opening ceremony featured special guest speeches, including one by Professor Jasim Uddin, Chair of the Ad-hoc Committee of Cox’s Bazar City College and former General Secretary of the District Sports Association, among others.
The initiative is expected to steer youth from substance abuse and identify promising athletes from remote areas.
