Fishermen casting their nets near the coast of Cox’s Bazar are pulling up plastic waste along with fish, highlighting the growing pollution in the sea. Plastic bottles, chips packets and other discarded materials are becoming entangled in their nets. On Thursday morning, fishermen were seen fishing with small nets close to the shore between Himchari and Dariyanagar instead of taking their boats into deeper waters. Along with small marine fish, the nets caught plastic bottles and other floating waste. Fishermen say tourists often throw plastic bottles, chips packets and other waste into the sea after visiting the beach. The presence of such waste among marine life highlights the threat plastic pollution poses to the coastal ecosystem and marine biodiversity.
