With support from the international NGO UNDP, Cox’s Bazar District Police has launched a training program for 4,000 TomTom (e-bike) drivers. The initiative aims to enhance traffic safety in Cox’s Bazar, making the city safer for tourists.
On Tuesday, November 5, Cox’s Bazar Police Lines inaugurated the program with an orientation on traffic regulations for 100 TomTom drivers. Superintendent of Police Mohammad Rahmat Ullah led the session, which was part of the “Enhancing Community Safety, Peaceful Coexistence, and Access to Justice” project.
During the inauguration, SP Rahmat Ullah noted that the number of TomToms in Cox’s Bazar far exceeds demand. The training program, gradually involving 4,000 drivers, aims to enhance safety and establish Cox’s Bazar as a secure tourist destination. He also highlighted that managing TomTom drivers will reduce crime in the area.
Additional Superintendent of Police (Traffic) Jashim Uddin Chowdhury moderated the event. Among the speakers were Cox’s Bazar Press Club President Mahbubur Rahman Chowdhury, BRTA Cox’s Bazar Assistant Director Uthoyin Choudhury, UNDP Project Manager Mohammad Masud Karim, and senior journalist Shamsul Haq Sharek.
