Rain brought relief to residents of Cox’s Bazar city on Saturday after several days of intense heat and humid weather.
A sudden shower began around noon, bringing down the heat and providing much-needed relief to people in the city.
The rain wet roads across different parts of the city. Although traffic and pedestrian movement slowed somewhat, local residents welcomed the showers after enduring days of sweltering weather.
Residents said they had been struggling with intense heat and uncomfortable weather for several days. The afternoon rain lowered the temperature and brought relief to the city’s environment.
Shekhar Sharma, a resident of Ukhia’s Morichya who had come to the city for work, said, “The intense heat was making me feel very uncomfortable. But as soon as the rain started, the heat subsided, and I felt relieved.”
The air in Cox’s Bazar also turned cooler after the rain. Local residents hope further showers will reduce the heat intensity in the coming days.
Assistant meteorologist at the Cox’s Bazar Meteorological Office, Abdul Hannan, said temperatures had reached 33 and 34 degrees Celsius over the past two days, making life uncomfortable for city residents.
“The temperature was also 33 degrees Celsius this morning. But it fell with the rain,” he said.
He added that a low-pressure system could form in a few days.
