The monsoon has once again transformed the countryside of Cox’s Bazar, where crystal-clear raindrops resting on broad taro leaves are offering a quiet yet captivating display of nature’s beauty.
The scene can now be observed across rural areas, wetlands and farmland, where rainwater collects in near-perfect spheres on the leaves. Illuminated by brief spells of sunshine or the soft light filtering through overcast skies, the droplets sparkle like pearls against the vivid green foliage.
The seasonal spectacle has drawn the attention of nature enthusiasts and photographers, many of whom have been visiting village paths, fields and waterlogged areas to capture the fleeting moments.
Local resident Yunus Alam said the monsoon revealed a different side of nature every day.
‘The raindrops and morning dew on taro leaves create a beautiful sight, especially in the early hours. Many people come to photograph these scenes during the rainy season,’ he said.
The phenomenon results from the unique surface structure of taro leaves, which is highly water-repellent. Instead of spreading across the leaf, water forms rounded droplets that remain suspended on the surface, making the display both scientifically fascinating and visually striking.
Although short-lived, the shimmering droplets serve as a reminder that nature’s most memorable moments are often found in its smallest details. Against the backdrop of lush monsoon greenery, the glistening beads of rain have added another layer of charm to the rainy season in Cox’s Bazar.
