Moishkum, located in the Kauarkhop Union of Ramu Upazila, is renowned for its natural beauty and vibrant landscape. Streams descending from the hills of Bandarban enhance the area’s charm, keeping Moishkum’s environment fresh and lively throughout the year.
During the dry season, local farmers cultivate extensive plots along the stream banks, producing a variety of fruits, vegetables, and essential crops. Their efforts have transformed the socioeconomic landscape, enabling many families to achieve self-reliance through agriculture.
However, the growing prevalence of tobacco cultivation has emerged as a concern. While tobacco farming was previously rare in this area, recent years have seen a notable increase. Agricultural experts warn that tobacco cultivation reduces soil fertility and may have long-term adverse effects on the environment.
Local environmentalists and community leaders emphasize the need to discourage tobacco farming and instead promote the cultivation of safe and profitable crops such as fruits and vegetables.
Adopting sustainable farming practices has become a pressing necessity for the future well-being of both the community and the environment in Moishkum, where natural beauty and agricultural potential coexist harmoniously.
