Rampant riverbank erosion in several areas of Ramu upazila has become a growing concern, particularly along the banks of the Bakkhali River. In Kachhapia Union’s Douchhori Master Para village, numerous houses are now under serious threat as the erosion intensifies.

Residents have urgently appealed to the Water Development Board to take immediate preventive measures to halt the erosion. According to reports, the nearby Mallok Road has already been devoured by the river.

Residents point out that the Bakkhali River originates from Myanmar’s Arakan state, which results in strong currents during the monsoon season. Heavy rainfall has further worsened the situation, putting the Master Para area on the verge of collapse.

“If immediate action is not taken, many families will be displaced,” warned the villagers, calling for urgent intervention from both the upazila administration and the Water Development Board.

Locals recalled that a protective embankment was built in the area about seven years ago, but this year’s intense monsoon rains have overwhelmed the riverbanks once again. Without swift action, the erosion could result in significant property loss and displacement in the coming days.
