Adverse weather and rough seas are helping local fishers collect larger quantities of shrimp fry along the coast near Marine Drive Road. Fisher Saiful Hossain said stronger waves and tidal currents carry shrimp fry into nets, making the monsoon season one of the best times for collection. Working from a small beachside shelter, Saiful and other fishers carefully separate the tiny shrimp fry from seaweed and other debris before storing them in containers for sale to hatchery owners. According to the fishers, shrimp fry are currently selling for around Tk 400 per thousand. Saiful said he collected about 4,000 shrimp fry on the day, which could earn him between Tk 1,600 and Tk 2,000.
