Cox’s Bazar is reeling under an intense heatwave, disrupting daily life and exhausting locals and tourists. According to the Bangladesh Weather Observation Team (BWOT), a cyclonic circulation may form over the Bay of Bengal between May 16 and 18, which could intensify into a cyclone. The agency also warns that temperatures may hit their peak by May 12.
From early morning, the sun’s blazing heat has made life unbearable across the district. Even the usually lively Cox’s Bazar beach has become a discomfort zone, with visitors struggling to cope with the extreme conditions.
As temperatures soar, many residents are avoiding outdoor activities unless necessary. Day labourers and people working outside suffer the most under the relentless sun.
The local meteorological office has predicted that the heatwave may intensify further in the coming days.
In response, health professionals have advised the public to stay indoors as much as possible and avoid outdoor exposure unless essential. They have especially urged extra caution for children and the elderly at greater risk due to the extreme heat.
