As the sun climbs higher, so does the temperature—signaling the peak of Chaitra in the Bengali calendar. With spring bidding farewell and the new year approaching, summer is coming.
Meteorologists have warned that the upcoming summer could bring record-breaking temperatures. Abdul Hannan, Assistant Meteorologist in Cox’s Bazar, has expressed concerns over a sharp rise in heat levels in the coming weeks.
According to the Meteorological Office, temperatures have already exceeded 30°C and are expected to continue rising. The sweltering heat will intensify further. Hannan also noted that while northern regions, including Dhaka, Sylhet, Rajshahi, and Khulna, are experiencing thunderstorms and even occasional hailstorms, the southern region—especially Cox’s Bazar and the entire Chattogram division—is likely to endure extreme heat.
“The signs of rising temperatures start appearing by mid-March,” said Hannan. He added that between March 25-28, temperatures may increase by 1-2 degrees Celsius. Additionally, a decrease in wind activity could intensify the heat at the beginning of April.
