Authorities have said that improving passenger services is a top priority, alongside efforts to upgrade Cox’s Bazar airport to international standards.

Senior officials of the Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB) and the civil aviation and tourism ministry made the remarks at a public hearing held at the airport’s conference hall on Thursday morning.

At the hearing, CAAB and ministry officials responded to various queries from passengers and stakeholders in the aviation sector.

Replying to a question on the extended runway, CAAB member Air Commodore Nur-e-Alam said recommendations made by the Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA) regarding the runway were not feasible to implement.

He said the runway had been constructed in coordination with all relevant government agencies and was designed not to create any navigation obstacles at the mouth of the Bakkhali River.

Nur-e-Alam also said that all infrastructure development works at Cox’s Bazar airport had already been completed and the government could declare it an international-standard airport at any time if it so decided.

Among others present at the hearing were CAAB member (administration) and additional secretary SM Lablur Rahman, deputy secretary of the civil aviation and tourism ministry, Md Nurul Huda, and CAAB director (property management) and deputy secretary Saniul Ferdous.

Passengers, aviation professionals, and representatives of different sections of society also took part in the public hearing.
