BD Clean Ukhiya has carried out its ninth cleanliness campaign at the Ukhiya Upazila Health Complex as part of its slogan-driven initiative to build a clean and liveable Ukhiya through individual responsibility.

The drive took place on Friday morning at the government health facility, with dozens of volunteers participating.

Senior nurse in charge of the health complex, Annie Pal, and storekeeper Mohammad Rahim Ullah were present and offered support and encouragement to the volunteers, helping ensure the programme was conducted in an organised manner.

“Ukhiya Upazila Health Complex is an important public service institution. Ensuring cleanliness here is essential for patients, their relatives, and healthcare workers,” Annie Pal said, appreciating the youth-led initiative and expressing hope that such activities would continue in the future.

BD Clean Cox’s Bazar district co-coordinator Sirajul Monira Tumpa also took part in the drive, alongside members of different BD Clean teams from across the district, widening the scale of the campaign.

The operation was led by Mizanur Rahman Adil and Surut Alam. Mobarak Sikdar handled IT support, Mamun oversaw logistics, and Mustafa Shaker Riyad coordinated communications. Male and female volunteers of the Ukhiya team joined the work with enthusiasm and discipline.

During the drive, an estimated 180 to 200 kilograms of waste were removed from the rear and surrounding areas of the hospital’s administrative building. The collected waste included plastic bags, broken glass, assorted plastic items, used tissues, and both biodegradable and non-biodegradable materials.

BD Clean Ukhiya team leader Omar Faruk said cleanliness was not merely a programme but a social responsibility.

“We want to build Ukhiya as a clean, healthy, and aware upazila. Young people must step forward, and everyone should take responsibility in their own role. We will continue such activities regularly,” he added.

The organisers expressed gratitude to all individuals and institutions who directly or indirectly supported the successful completion of the campaign.
