The Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) has advised the country’s four seaports to keep hoisting local cautionary signal No. 3, as squally weather may affect the North Bay under the influence of an active monsoon. The warning was issued on Saturday morning (August 23).
Abdul Hannan, Assistant Meteorologist at the Cox’s Bazar office, said, “Due to convective cloud formation over the North Bay, the sea has turned rough. As a result, squally winds may blow over coastal areas and maritime ports.”
Accordingly, Chattogram, Cox’s Bazar, Mongla, and Payra ports have been instructed to maintain cautionary signal No. 3. Fishing boats and trawlers have also been advised to remain close to shore and proceed with caution until further notice.
Meanwhile, Cox’s Bazar beach witnessed a heavy tourist rush on the weekend. Many visitors came to enjoy the rain-soaked beauty of the sea, but tourist police have raised safety alerts due to the turbulent waters. Red flags have been posted along the shore, indicating a swimming ban is in effect.
Tourist police have urged visitors to remain vigilant, warning that entering the water poses serious risks at this time.
