Authorities have again hoisted local cautionary signal No. 3 at Cox’s Bazar, Chattogram, Mongla, and Payra seaports as active monsoon winds continue to churn over the northern Bay of Bengal.
Confirming the development on Thursday morning, Abdul Hannan, Assistant Meteorologist at the Cox’s Bazar Weather Office, said that vigorous monsoon activity has led to the formation of convective cloud clusters over the Bay. This may trigger gusty or squally winds across the maritime and coastal regions.
As part of the warning, all fishing boats and trawlers in the northern Bay have been instructed to remain close to the coast and proceed with caution until further notice.
Just a day earlier, the weather office had withdrawn Signal No. 3 following an improvement in conditions. However, a sudden deterioration prompted authorities to reinstate the warning.
Overcast skies have persisted throughout the day in Cox’s Bazar. Between 6 a.m. and noon on Thursday, the district recorded 34 millimeters of rainfall, with light to moderate showers also reported from nearby areas.
According to the latest forecast from the Bangladesh Meteorological Department, the prevailing adverse weather conditions are expected to persist for the next several days.
