At least six dead sea turtles have washed ashore along the Cox’s Bazar coastline, from Laboni Point to Himchhari’s Pechar Dwip. The lifeless bodies were spotted at different points along the shore until Sunday morning.
Witnesses said some turtles had fishing nets or similar entanglements around their necks, which may have killed them.
Moreover, unhatched eggs were scattered near some of the turtles, suggesting they had come ashore to nest before succumbing.
The distressing sight was captured on camera by Cox’s Bazar Life photojournalist Palash Sikder, whose images starkly depict the tragedy.
Environmentalists warn that plastic waste, abandoned fishing nets, and other human-induced pollution seriously threaten marine life. These hazards can be fatal for endangered species such as sea turtles, transforming their natural habitat into a deadly trap.
Local authorities and environmental conservation groups have been urged to take swift action to prevent further tragedies by enhancing beach monitoring, waste management, and public awareness initiatives.
