SRB-15 has stepped up security surveillance at 357 Durga Puja mandaps in Cox’s Bazar and Bandarban districts ahead of the Sharadiya Durga Puja festival, with a special striking force ready to handle any untoward incident, disorder, or sabotage.

The information was disclosed in a press release issued by SRB-15 on Thursday, October 15.

According to the release, Durga Puja will be celebrated at 324 mandaps in Cox’s Bazar and 33 in Bandarban this year.

To ensure security at the mandaps, the battalion will conduct mobile and motorcycle patrols and conduct intelligence surveillance in plain clothes. A special striking force will also remain on standby to respond to emergencies.

An online monitoring cell has been activated to prevent rumours from spreading on social media during the festival. Special measures have also been taken to prevent eve-teasing and harassment of female visitors at the mandaps.

SRB-15 is coordinating with other law enforcement agencies and leaders of Puja celebration committees to ensure security. The overall situation will be monitored round the clock from a control room at the battalion headquarters.

The release said no information or indications of possible sabotage had been received so far. However, intelligence, surveillance and security preparations would continue to address any unforeseen situation.

SRB-15 also extended greetings to members of the Hindu community on the occasion of Durga Puja and sought everyone’s cooperation in maintaining a peaceful festive atmosphere.
