Cox’s Bazar, home to the world’s longest sea beach, is one of the most attractive tourist destinations globally. However, water sports—a vital segment of international tourism—has yet to reach its full potential here.

The sector remains underdeveloped despite ideal conditions for activities like surfing, scuba diving, kite surfing, windsurfing, snorkelling, wakeboarding, and paddleboarding.

Currently, a few water sports, such as jet skiing, boat rides, and parasailing, are available in Cox’s Bazar. However, inadequate safety measures, poor facilities, and a lack of international-standard equipment and trained personnel limit these activities.

Tourism experts believe that Cox’s Bazar’s vast blue waters and natural beauty make it an ideal destination for water sports. Realizing this potential requires strategic investment, skilled manpower, and robust safety protocols.

Mohammed Shahedul Islam, a tourism expert, told Cox’s Bazar Life:
“Water sports in Cox’s Bazar can significantly attract international tourists. However, this requires proper planning, modern facilities, and clear direction.”

Local entrepreneur Kaisar Mahmud echoed this sentiment, saying:
“We see a high influx of tourists, but the lack of water sports opportunities deprives them of a complete experience. Introducing world-class water sports can make Cox’s Bazar even more popular.”

Globally, activities like surfing, scuba diving, windsurfing, kitesurfing, snorkelling, wakeboarding, and paddleboarding have gained immense popularity. The natural setting of Cox’s Bazar is highly suitable for these adventures.

With the right initiatives, Cox’s Bazar could transform into an international hub for water sports, benefiting the tourism industry, the local economy, and employment opportunities.
