Bangladesh’s rising women’s footballer Shaheda Akter Ripa has, for the first time in her career, signed with a foreign professional club. She has officially joined the Royal Thimphu College Football Club of Bhutan to play in the upcoming AFC Women’s Club Championship, marking a new milestone in the history of Bangladeshi women’s football.

Ripa joined the Royal Thimphu College FC squad on Friday and will begin regular training from Saturday. According to club officials, she is set to make her debut in the opening match of the AFC Club Championship, scheduled to kick off in Laos on August 17.

Ripa, hails from Cox’s Bazar, first came into the spotlight with impressive performances in various national-level tournaments. She has represented Bangladesh in age-group women’s football teams and is currently a regular member of the national squad.

Her speed, technical skills, and goal-scoring ability have quickly caught the attention of coaches and selectors alike, earning her a place in several successful club campaigns.

In a statement, the Royal Thimphu College FC head coach said, “Ripa is a talented forward. We believe she will bring new pace and strength to our attack and play a vital role in the tournament.”

Coaches, players, and supporters of women’s football in Bangladesh have hailed Ripa’s signing as a proud moment for the country’s sporting arena. Many hope her achievement will inspire more young women to aim for opportunities on the international stage.

Notably, several other players from the Bangladesh women’s national team have already signed with the club, and more signings are reportedly in the pipeline.
