Three Rohingya men were arrested with 150,000 yaba tablets during a special operation by Special Response Battalion-15 (SRB-15) in Teknaf on Saturday, officials said.
The suspects were arrested from the Purullar Ghat area near the Marine Drive Road in Maheshkhali Para under Ward 4 of Teknaf around 2:30 pm, according to SRB-15.
A team from SRB-15’s Teknaf camp received information that a group of drug dealers was staying near Purullar Ghat to sell yaba.
Acting on the information, the team raided the area. The suspects attempted to flee after sensing the presence of the law enforcement personnel but were arrested.
The detainees were identified as Imam Hossain, 45, of Kutupalong Camp-17; Noor Alam, 27, of Balukhali Camp-18; and Jam Mullok, 50, of Balukhali Camp-18, all in Ukhiya.
SRB-15 members searched the detainees and recovered 150,000 yaba tablets from their possession. They also seized an Android mobile phone and a feature phone allegedly used for drug sales.
The arrested men and the seized drugs were handed over to Teknaf Model Police Station for further legal action, including filing a case under the Narcotics Control Act, the SRB said.
The law enforcement agency said such operations would continue as part of efforts to curb drug trafficking.
