Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) seized 420,000 yaba tablets abandoned by smugglers during an operation along the Bangladesh-Myanmar border in Tumbru, but no one was arrested.

Acting on intelligence that a large consignment of yaba would be smuggled into Bangladesh through the western Kul Ruhul’s Shop-Katapahar border area, a special patrol team of Tumbru Border Outpost took position at Nayapara, about 100 yards inside Bangladesh, around 9:00 am on Saturday.

Around 4:30 am on Sunday, the patrol team detected suspected smugglers moving using a thermal imaging device.

When five to six BGB members moved towards them, the smugglers abandoned the consignment and fled towards Myanmar through the darkness and water.

The patrol team later searched the area and found three bags wrapped in lungis. The bags contained 420,000 yaba tablets.

The smugglers could not be arrested.

BGB said legal proceedings over the seized drugs were underway.

Cox’s Bazar Battalion (34 BGB) said it would continue operations to prevent drug trafficking and smuggling along the border.
