Cox’s Bazar beach has come alive with throngs of visitors during the extended Eid-ul-Azha holidays, as hundreds of thousands of tourists gather to enjoy the coastal splendour. A visit to various points along the three-kilometre stretch of the beach revealed that over 100,000 people had congregated to enjoy the ocean waves, take photographs, and soak up the sun.
Despite the authorities raising red flags along the shore to warn of the rough seas, most tourists were seen venturing into the water undeterred. Senior lifeguard Mohammad Zahirul Islam shared that lifeguards are maintaining a three-tier safety net, including vigilant watch from towers, beach patrols, and boat patrols in the water.
Cox’s Bazar Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Salahuddin assured that local administration and law enforcement agencies are actively working to ensure the safety of all tourists. He also noted that mobile courts are in operation to curb overcharging by unscrupulous traders.
